Insomnia

Sleep took its flight
I embraced the light
Memories of the day
Sway gently in the moonlight
Ghosts of the past
Waltz into the present
And together
They mock the future
Who lies patiently
In a mist of uncertainty
On my rumpled pillow
My eyelids pinch mercilessly
As the long night
Fades into daylight

(C) Olufunke Kolapo, 2015

A Day Away

lengthen shadows
under the golden sunset
dark splotches of birds
floating in the sky
whistling of the fall of  night
and the flight of daylight,
“release your brows
of its furrows
fret not o’er
the ills of the day
nor of its toils
a new morrow
is just  a day away.”

Starless Night

I know not what lies in his heart
The eyes and the mind give no hint
I know not if his love is genuine
Nor if it be as true as mine

I know not who he thinks of
Whether it be of lust or love
I know not the beat in his heart
Nor if it dances to my heartbeat

I do know what lies in my heart
My eyes and heart give the light
This passion in me must breed
This ache in it must be filled

Untill Tomorrow

Night, greatest dread of every kids
Monsters out of every openings
Never goodnight, till tomorrow

Not one is safe from the dire bug
A time to toss, turn, sigh and sweat
Never goodnight, till tomorrow

Fondling is the breeze of rue and guilt
Of the day’s toils, ills and gains
Ne’er goodnight, say till tomorrow

Out of the dark, a piercing light
With the promise of a fresh start
‘Say till morrow, oh dreaded night
